This spring: be on the lookout for SNOW
MOLD!
What is snow mold? Snow mold is a fungal
disease that
develops in your lawn. Patchy areas of your lawn
may
look matted with a gray, pink, white color this
spring.
This is because we’ve experienced an abundance
of snow that remained on the ground for an
extended
period of time. During this time, grass under the
ground
remained cool and wet, allowing the mold to
develop. The patches may even grow as long as
the ground remains wet this spring.
Snow mold is not a serious issue and is typical in
this area with extended periods of snow cover.
The area of your grass that is infected with snow
mold will simply take a little longer to green up than
the rest of your lawn. To help alleviate the problem,
you may gently rake the area to help the grass dry
out and prevent it from spreading to other areas. If
you are still concerned about the lack of growth in a
particular patch of grass, feel free to call us for a
free service call so that we may investigate the
problem and determine additional treatment
options.
To help prevent snow mold in the future, spread out
large piles of snow to encourage rapid melting.
